US Government Reaches Data Deal with High Tech Companies

According to the Financial Times the Obama administration has reached an agreement with leading technology companies that allows them to give customers more details about the online data collected by government agencies.

Under the agreement, which comes after several internet companies launched a lawsuit calling for more transparency, the groups will be able to say how many information requests they receive each year and how many customer accounts have been affected.

The five companies that had sued the government –FacebookGoogleYahooMicrosoft and LinkedIn – welcomed the news that disclosure rules were being relaxed.
